Volunteering Opportunities
We currently have a strong, fun organization and would like to encourage everyone with a similar love for animals to join us in our efforts to improve their lives. There are many ways to be involved, from fund raising, to public education outreach, to volunteering at the shelter, to writing articles and newsletters, to website design and maintenance, to participating in events such as the Amelia County Christmas parade, etc.
APAW is working with county government to improve citizen access to the Animal Shelter through a well-managed volunteer program. This program would allow volunteers to assist the Animal Control Officer in many ways from socializing with and caring for the animals to daily operations such as office work and cleaning. Volunteer involvement will improve shelter operations and increase pet adoptions by raising awareness and making the shelter pets more adoptable because of the involvement of caring volunteers. Something as simple as getting to know the personalities of the pets housed at the shelter increases their chances of adoption.
If you are interested in volunteering at the shelter please call Kirstin Krueger at Amelia County Animal Control at 804-561-3878.
APAW meets on the third Monday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September & November) at 7:00 PM at the James L. Hamner Public Library on Dunn Street in Amelia. Membership dues are only $10.00 per year. You are cordially invited to join us in our efforts to improve the lives of the animals that give us so much in return. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact any of our Board members. Thank you for you interest and support!
